Brief Description: The instrument has a tapering wooden body and stands on a wooden base. There is a square glass screen at the wide end and a panel on top of the body, behind the screen, slides out allowing access to a wooden frame holding lenses. A brass cylinder screwed to the narrow end of the body has a thread to take objectives. The stage is mounted in a dovetail slot opposite the objective mounting. It consists of a brass ring on top of which a bracket for holding specimens is mounted. A flat bar at the base of the stage carries a concave mirror on a compass joint. A cylindrical bar mounted along the length of the base fits a threaded hole in the stage. This adjusts the focus and is operated by a knob set under the screen. A wooden tray, with eleven specimen sliders, is also present. There are also two Hooke joints.
