Brief Description: Compound microscope, manufactured by Plossl. A Y-shaped foot supports the instrument on trunions. The square stage has two spring clips to hold specimens and a condenser is mounted on the underside of the stage plate. A pillar at the rear of the stage holds the body tube. Coarse focusing is by two knobs on each side of the tube linked to the body mounting. The mounting is engraved with the manufacturer's name. Fine focus is adjusted by a screw on the top of the pillar. A bar below the stage holds the plano-concave mirror on an articulated arm.

The instrument is stored in a walnut case with fitted drawers for accessories and green velvet supports. The case has a spring loaded, key operated lock. The following accessories are present: five eyepieces numbered I-V, a further eyepiece labelled 'Vollglas Ocular', and five aperture discs, one of which is in place on the microscope's substage assembly.
Primary Inscriptions: "S.PLOSSL & cie, WIEN"; one eyepiece engraves "VOLLGLAS OCULAR".
