Brief Description: Iron tray with bright surface (and traces of mercury), black-finished brass prism-shaped cover, wooden bottle with ivory top of mercury, and a circular brass bubble level, all in a mahogany case. The case also contains a simple funnel made from a piece of chart showing the Pahang River.
Primary Inscriptions: "CARY & Co.,/ (HENRY PORTER)/ OPTICIANS & SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENT MAKERS,/ TO THE ADMIRALTY, &C./ 7, PALL MALL, LONDON, S.W./ LATE OF 181, STRAND, W.C./ ESTABLISHED 1765/ TWO DOORS EAST FROM WATERLOO PLACE,/ OPTICIANS TO THE ROYAL LONDON OPTHALMIC HOSPITAL"
Provenance: Not ascertained. Used by Admiral C.E. Monro in China. Brass plaque on lid: "C>E> MONRO R.N.".
