Primary Inscriptions: The Plaine Levell with plaine sightes very usefull. The water Levell with Brass sights as it stands a workeing which sights sights are moveable being put upon the Levell with soft wax. The semy circle set upon a perfect square and the plumet hanging perpendicular giveth from the sights taken either way a true Levell. The water Levell standard bearer. The levell Barrell bored hollow as a silinder. The twoo brass sights being moveable & to be caried in a box till used. Pencil annotation to mount: From Walter Blith, The English Improver Improved or the Survey of Husbandry Surveyed, London, 1653 (? & other eds.) ?by Faithorne. Annotations to verso: in pencil "Faithorne fecit". In pen "Blyth", "Blagrave".
