Brief Description: The screw previously holding the instrument assembled is not original and should not be reused. The instrument was evidently part of a larger set of surveying instruments. It was reunited with its case, February 1999. The rectangular wooden box has a shaped, leather-lined compartment for several further pieces. On underside of case, pencil note "? for German hanging compass".
Primary Inscriptions: "J. C. Voigtlænder. / in Wien." in compass bowl. Written inside lid of case "J Cachstoch" or "Hachstoch".
