Astrological Amulet, c. 1400

Brief Description: Ring of copper alloy with gothic script characters around inner circumference of the inscribed face, with (astrological?) characters around outer circumference and outer edge. Suspension lug at top (though there is no pierced hole to thread through). There are holes around the inner edge, which are presumably functional - perhaps to fit a central piece? The surface texture sugests that the item may have been sand cast rather than produced from sheet metal.

Provenance: Presented by Dr G. C. Dunning in 1973. Found on a medieval site at Sandwich in 1935 by W. P. D. Stebbing.
