Inventory Number: 94123
Object Type:
Persons: Alexander Young Shortt (Photographer)
Date Created: 1867
Accession Number: 1947-5
Brief Description: Waxed paper negative (presumably Le Gray's process) of a Hindu temple in the [?]Palanpore region of India. Vertical format. Black and white to transmitted light. An unusually late use of the paper negative, presumably because it was more suited to the climate, or just lighter to carry. Positive print is 75792. One of three paper negatives and two prints, together with a manuscript description of the taking of the photographs (11957). It shows the taller narrow end of the temple, with elaborate carved figures etc., which appear in surprisingly good detail in both negative and print.
