Brief Description: Small paper, part of a letter to Herschel concerning building work, re-used (on the back) as scrap paper for three notes: older calculations (in pencil); note on photographic chemistry referring to chemical preparation 848 in his photographic experiments [suggesting a date about December 1842 or January 1843]; and notes of suggested names for a photographic process 'Cryptotype | Calyptotype | Lanthano-|-type' [probably for the latent images brought out by vapour, May 1843].
Provenance: Presented by Miss Herschel and Lady Lubbock in 1928. They were the two surviving and youngest children of Sir John Herschel (Francisca and Constance).
