Brief Description: Waxed paper negative (presumably Le Gray's process) of a Hindu temple in the [?]Palanpore region of India. Horizontal format. Dark brown, black and white to transmitted light. An unusually late use of the paper negative, presumably because it was more suited to the climate, or just lighter to carry. One three paper negatives and two prints, together with a manuscript description of the taking of the photographs (11957). It shows the long side of the temple, with entrance and elaborate carved figures etc., from a slightly different angle from the companion negative and print (79992 and 42664).
Primary Inscriptions:
Provenance: Presented by Lieutenant-Colonel A. G. Shortt in 1947. Taken by his father Major-General Alexander Young Shortt when he was Political Resident (representative of the British Government) in the native state of Palanpur, India, about 1860-70.
