Brief Description: The cylindrical copper alloy pillar screws into a socket on the lid of the wooden box base. An arm with a threaded ring is mounted on a post that pushes into the top of the pillar. Objective lenses screw into the ring. A bracket at the top of the pillar takes the dovetail bar that holds the ring stage, which has a pinhole for accessories. The mount for the mirror pushes into a hole though the pillar.
The mahogany box is lined with blue and green velvet. There are also three objectives, a dished glass disk that fits the stage and stage forceps.
Provenance: Presented by W. G. Wallace in 1951. It formerly belonged to Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913).
