Brief Description: The dial includes a volvelle with aspectarium, calendar of saints days and zodiac signs; volvelles with a table of Epacts and the solar cycle from 1559 to 1587; a small circular mirror; a vertical string gnomon dial for common hours; a compass, with the needle missing; a horizontal dial for common hours for the latitude 48°50'; and a Geminus dial.
Primary Inscriptions: "M.V.D. Thomas Loffelholtz. patricio Norib: cons: in Septu: senatum electo. devotae gratulatio: ergo. d.d. christianus heide Anno M.D.L.X.IX octobris XXVII" on a brass plate on the the inside of the upper leaf.
Provenance: Presented by Lewis Evans Bought by Lewis Evans from Cantoni, Milan, 1895. Made as a gift for Thomas Loffelholtz, an 'elder Mayor' of Nuremberg.
