Brief Description: Armillary sphere constructed according to the planetary system of Ptolemy. It shows the great circles of the heavens and the ecliptic; no fixed stars are indicated.
Primary Inscriptions: Unsigned The base is engraved with the coat of arms and quarterings, crest and badge of Henry Percy, 9th Earl of Northumberland, K.G. (1564-1632), generally known as 'The Wizard Earl'.
Provenance: Lent by the Bodleian Library from 1951. Owned by Henry Percy, 9th Earl of Northumberland (1564-1632), 'The Wizard Earl'. Presented to the Bodleian Library in 1601 by Sir Josias Bodley.
