Inventory Number: 69532
Object Type: microscope
Subject Classification(s): Microscopy
Accession Number:
Brief Description: The body tube of this copper alloy, drum microscope is inscribed with the maker's name and address. The eyepiece pushes into the top of the tube and the nose, that caries the objective lenses, screws into the lower end. The body pushes into an inner sleeve that can be racked up and down in an outer sleeve by a milled knob on the side of the instrument. The stand is a cylinder, open on one side to allow light to the concave mirror mounted on a spindle. The cylinder to supports the stage and extends above to hold the optical components. A condensing lens is mounted on an articulated arm attached to the stand. A thread at the base of the stand screws into a boss on the wooden case. The components and accessories are stored in a drawer in the case. There are two eyepieces, five button objective lenses that can be used in combination, two noses, a steel pin on a copper alloy collar and a cylindrical copper alloy pillar with a ring at the top. The drawer also holds ten glass slides, seven with specimens.
