Brief Description: Untrimmed sheet consisting of a photographic reproduction of a positive print from the negative photogenic drawing on glass in the collection of the Science Museum, London, surrounded (within the photographic reproduction) by title and text and dated August 1890. The positive and reproduction were made in 1890 by Sir William J. Herschel (see letter in 13193) and distributed by the three Herschel brothers (sons of Sir John), whose signatures are included within the photograph. The circular image is the actual size of the original glass negative, 90-91 mm diameter (just over 3½ inches), which was made in November 1839, the first successful photograph made on glass; compare the original circular paper negatives 11879, 21527, 32127, 85037. This copy is lighter than the bound copy (13193); there is also a lantern slide version (13194).
