Brief Description: Mater; rete; 5 plates; alidade; pin. The horse is missing. The inscription on the kursi is from the part of the Koran called the "throne" [kursi]: Sura 2, v.256. The inscription around the rim reads: "Oh God, do thou be gracious to bestow thy favour on Muhammad, the chosen and well-appoved Ali and others", then follow the names of 12 Imams of the Shia sect, and "the one that is to come".
Primary Inscriptions: "Engraved by Muhammad Mahdi al-Yazdi", on the back. Other inscriptions around the rim and on the kursi[see notes below].
Provenance: Presented by Lewis Evans Bought by Evans from Akchoté frères, Paris.
