Brief Description: | Experimental photogenic drawing of a piece of heather by W. H. F. Talbot, March 1839. It is unusual in being on a piece of stiff card, and of regular rectangular shape. The entire specimen is very dark wine-red/mauve, the image indistinct and of similar colour. The card shows silver tarnishing at the edges and especially the corners, and is dark greenish on the back. Given to Herschel by Talbot as a specimen of the current state of his photogenic drawing process. For fuller descriptive and historical commentary see narratives. | ||||||||||
