Brief Description: The instrument stands on a circular wooden base with a concave mirror at its centre. Three turned brass legs support the stage and three shorter legs on the stage, spaced between the lower legs, hold the body tube. The stage has two pinholes and a sunken centre that holds a glass disc. The body is pasteboard covered in rayskin. The draw tube is pasteboard covered in green vellum and the focusing positions are marked. A lignum vitae fitting, with the eye lens and a brass dust cover screws onto a lignum vitae collar at the top on the tube above the field lens. The cylindrical, lignum vitae nose screws into a disc the base of the tube and has an external brass thread for objectives. The pyramid case has a drawer for accessories. These comprise five ivory sliders, a spring stage and a glass fishplate inscribed with the words, "This Glass is to Lay ye Fish on to See ye Circulation of the Blood &c."
