Brief Description: The lid has a copper alloy screw socket set in its centre. The parts present are a concave mirror set in copper alloy on a horseshoe mount, a copper alloy stage, a thin copper alloy pillar with a cork in one end, a screw with a milled edge, a mill-edged turn-key, a washer with square hole in the centre, three glass slides and a threaded ring on an arm with a smaller ring at the other end. The box is mahogany, with base lined with dark green velvet.

Provenance: BLL (Sherwood Taylor tag); WCM stamped on box which contains a label: "Portable Dissecting Microscope Used by Prof. W.C. McIntosh F.R.S. 1868".
