Brief Description: Compound microscope consisting of a base, plane mirror, pillar and an eyepiece.

The vertical pillar has a square cross section and screws into the centre of the circular base. An arm and collar at the top of the pillar support the optical components. The pillar passes though the rectangular, brass stage that is attached by a screw on each side allowing it to pivot. A rectangular bar extends down from the stage at the back of the pillar, where it is held against a steel spring by a screw in a bracket. Adjusting the screw alters the pitch of the stage facilitating fine focusing.

Circular plane mirror which pivots in its semi-cicular frame.

Cylindrical barrel with screw threads at each end

The brass eyepiece screws into the brass body tube and the nosepiece has an external thread for an objective. This arrangement pushes into a brass sleeve, which allows the vertical position to be varied.

Circular base with fitings to secure vertical pillar and plane mirror. A pinhole in the base holds the plane mirror in a horseshoe mount.
