Brief Description: English ivory and brass quadrant (Gunter type) on a wooden stand. Signed, "I: Rowley. fecit:."; undated; c.1700.

The quadrant is used to find the time from the sun's altitude, as well as for other astronomical measurements and calculations. It follows the design published in 1623 by Edmund Gunter.
