Brief Description: Small varnished oil painting (title reads that the painting is on panel - however it appears to be painted on canvas stretched over panel). In black painted /stained wooden frame with gold painted inset moulding. The painting is a portrait of J Berzelius, showing his torso upwards, depicted in a roundel, behind is a depiction of the sky, and in the foreground on a shelf, books, spectacles and scientific equipment. Below the shelf is an inscription to Berzelius, with details of his life. The reverse of the frame is inscribed Jons Jakob Berzelius (1??9 - 1848). Four cooper alloy fixings with screws and two eye hooks with a copper alloy hanging wire. amore recent piece of board used as backing.
