Brief Description: Amplifier and Detector Type 55A With Headphones, with seven 'Marconi' V24 valves, two sliding potentiometers, numerous terminals, dovetailed teak frame and japanned steel case. Thirteen brass terminals marked "6 VOLTS + -", "H.T. VOLTS + -", "120 Ohms TELEPHONES", "E", "F", and "G". With earphones. This amplifier and detector formed part of a Marconi No.6 direction finding station. It was used along with a radiogoniometer, tuning condenser, transformer, battery and wavemeter.
Primary Inscriptions: "M.W.T. CO. LTD. LONDON / AMPLIFIER NO 181868 / TYPE NO 55 A / NO OF VALVES 7 / WAVE RANGE 600 - 5000m / H.T. VOLTS 50" on plastic plaque on interior of teak frame.
