Brief Description: | English circular bubble level. Brass. Unsigned and undated; c.1700. The level is fixed to a brass base plate by three adjusting screws. The centre of the glass is marked by two concentric rings. This seems to be the earliest circular bubble level known. It may have been made by John Rowley, who made many of the instruments in the Orrery Collection. There is some evidence that Rowley was the inventor of this type of level. | ||||||||||
