Brief Description: Portable hand telescope with mahogany body and three brass draw-tubes; push-on brass cap to object lens, sliding closure to eye lens. The Elliott Brothers 56 Strand and Watkins & Hill 5 Charing Cross addresses were used in combination for only about a year after Elliott took over Watkins & Hill in 1856.
Primary Inscriptions: "ELLIOTT BROS. | 56 Strand & 5 Charing Cross, | LONDON." engraved on draw tube beneath "645 | EIC" and East India Company logo.
Provenance: Presented by H. R. Bristow in 2015. Purchased by the donor from Victor Burness, a dealer.
