Brief Description: Albumen print, mounted within a glazed enclosure, red border, hanging hook, aperture in back showing inscription. Portrait of Andrew Ross, seated three-quarter length, turned slightly to right; vignetted. Foxing stains. Ross (1798-1859) was a founder member of the RMS. The photograph must have been taken in the period 1855-59, and the print is approximately contemporary, though the mounting is later.
Primary Inscriptions: Inscription on back of mount, visible through glazed aperture in back of enclosure: 'Late Andrew Ross | Optician | Heatherstone Buildings | Holborn | W.C.'. Typed label below this: 'Behind this photograph written in faint pencil are the words:- "Presented to Mr. Edwd. Praill, M.Q.M.C., 3, Parkhill Rd., Hampstead, N.W. and Exor. & Trustee of the estate of the late George Jacob Holyoake." Received Dec.5.1906.'.
