Brief Description: Original case of the daguerreotype portrait of Michael Faraday by Antoine Claudet (30015). When the broken cover glass was replaced and the daguerreotype re-packaged in a conservation mount it would no longer fit into its original case, which is therefore kept and numbered separately.
Wood covered with thin black leather, granular pattern with relief rectangle, raised ribs with leaf pattern; with gold-tooled lines around top and bottom and around internal borders. Unusual curved sides. Plain dark wine red velvet pad; wine-red paper backing and velvet sides to photograph compartment. Decorative brass clasp.
