Brief Description: Scrapbook bound in quarter-leather and terracotta red cloth, spine gone and front board loose. 56 paper leaves plus items mounted on guards, several loose items. Contains cuttings from newspapers and periodicals, various forms of illustrations, some letters, and several photographs, reflecting T. H. T. Hopkins's mechanical and scientific interests, especially in lathes, ornamental and geometric turning, workshop techniques, and machinery. It was inherited from him and continued first by Edward Chapman and then by R. T. Gunther.

Contents include (see separate entries): woodburytype from Turner's Manual; albumen print of a machine; 8 photographs (?woodburytypes) of cranes, steam hoists, and their buckets.

Brief Description: In MS Gunther 80, scrapbook of T. H. T. Hopkins relating to mechanics and turning. Eight photographs, either woodburytypes or purple-brown toned albumen prints, mounted on the album pages. They show: a floating crane or dredger; a crane or hoisting engine; various types of buckets and mechanical gathering or excavating attachments for such hoisting engines (4 photographs); and steam cranes or hoisting engines on rails actually in use (2). One of the latter machines bears a maker's name: 'Pr... Brothers | Engineers'. No accompanying description. This group of photographs has the appearance of illustrations from, or intended for, a manufacturer's catalogue; though they are not cuttings from a catalogue, they are real photographs on thin photographic paper (as used for woodburytypes and albumen prints) with clean blank backs (where visible).
