Brief Description: Nine albumen prints (all circular except central one, which is vertically elongated) mounted on a large card for display purposes, and captioned and inscribed in manuscript. They are photomicrographs of various different specimens of both plants and animals, showing very clear detail and strong brown and sepia colours, in an excellent state of preservation. The objects depicted (as captioned) are: 'Longitudinal Section of Testudinaria', 'Palate of Lymnea stagnalis', 'Longitudinal Section of Fir', 'Transverse Section of Testudinaria', 'Antenna of Silk worm Moth', 'Trachea of Beetle', 'Spicules of Gorgonia', 'Stellate Scale of Durio-oxleyana', 'Gemmules of Sponge & tuberculated Spicula'.
Primary Inscriptions: Inscribed along bottom: 'Presented to The Microscopical Society of London May 1859. by M. S. Legg', and each photograph captioned. 'Bristol Board' blind stamp.
Provenance: Presented by the Royal Microscopical Society in 1991. Given to the society by the photographer in May 1859.
