Brief Description: Large oblong volume bound in red half-leather and red cloth. A commercially produced album issued by subscription, but without the issuer's or publisher's name. It contains flyleaves + 17 stiff card leaves each bearing a single large albumen print (approximately 8½ x 11 inches) with 36 small portrait images identified intrinsically, mounted above a printed caption, except the first, of the Royal Family, which contains 23 images (including 5 deceased). The total number of portraits is thus 599. Each caption (again except the first) is dated 1889.

Primary Inscriptions: 'A Miniature Portrait Gallery of Men and Women of the XIXth Century' (title on front cover). Printed label inside headed 'For Private Circulation Only ...', but no name of issuer or publisher.
