Brief Description: Four albumen prints mounted on card, neatly matted and titled; framed and glazed. Showing the private observatory and 15-inch reflecting telescope of Frank McClean at Ferncliff (or Ferncliffe), Tunbridge Wells. The photographs are as follows: house with wooden observatory building on roof (centre top); telescope seen in full from both sides (left and right); closer view of the top end of the telescope tube with spectroscopic and other fittings (centre bottom). Frame is horizontal format, telescope photographs vertical; the photographs are approximately 6 x 8 inches. No additional inscription or indication of provenance visible. H. H. Turner was a friend and admirer of McClean, so the most likely source is the University Observatory. Backed with brown packing paper. Two copper alloy eye hooks and hanging wire.
Primary Inscriptions: Heading in aperture on front of mount: 'Ferncliff Observatory Tunbridge Wells'; caption in aperture below photographs: '15 Inch Reflector'. Two of the photographs show the blind-stamp 'G. Glanville | Tunbridge Wells'.
