Brief Description: Simple and Compound Microscope by W and S Jones. This copper alloy instrument is an example of the 'Jones' Most Improved' microscope. The flat, folding tripod foot supports a cylindrical pillar with a compass joint to the square-sectioned limb. The square stage has three pinholes for accessories and a bracket, on two pins, to hold specimens. The stage mounting can be racked up and down on the limb for focusing. A condensing lens is mounted on a sliding sleeve below the stage and a plano-concave mirror is mounted on a lower sleeve. An arm to hold the body tube is set on top of the limb. The accessories include: six objective lenses in a rotating disc, which is attached to stand arm, a Lieberkühn with its carrier and two lenses each with a Lieberkühn, a compound objective, an objective in leather pouch, a spring stage, a three-wing stage, a with watch-glass lens, one small clear lens and a black and ivory disc, a fish-plate, a live-box, a cone diaphragm, copper alloy forceps, stage forceps, an ivory talc box, disc key, 22 specimen sliders and a bull's-eye lens on a copper alloy pin. The fitted case box is mahogany.
