DAGUERREOTYPES by various photographers, 1850s - studio portraits, with hand tinting, typical of the heyday of daguerreotype portraiture in the 1850s; the stereo-scopic portrait or posed study (with leather slip case) is by Antoine Claudet, and its use of a mirror is a deliberate technical irony, because the silvered metal surface of the daguerreotype is itself identical to that of a mirror
