English REFRACTING TELESCOPE

Oak, with brass lens mounts and sliding dust excluders. Unsigned and undated. Overall length 7'9' cross section 3' x 3' aperture 11/4'.

The micrometer eye-piece (Orrery Collection no. 6), which is shown on the floor of this case, was used with this instrument.

This telescope could be used on the same cradle and tripod as the other wooden telescope in the Orrery Collection (no. 17 - shown inside this case).

There is a brass hook at the eye-piece end which was used, in conjunction with a pulley system, for supporting the telescope at the desired angle when in use.
