Refracting telescope, English, c.1690

A 12-ft refractor made of pasteboard tubes covered with white vellum tooled in gold; the objective lens and mount are missing, the eye-piece is mounted in lignum vitae. An instrument from the collection of Charles Boyle, fourth Earl of Orrery (1676-1731).
