Note by Meinertzhagen (Seller or Previous Owner)

"Shozo Kato, from which I bought this piece, related to me the tale of a rich man who stayed the night at an inn. His host, observing his wealthy bearing and hoping to profit substantially from so great a customer, served up unsparingly the best of everything he could provide in the way of expensive delicacies, including in the fare a large dish of Myoga Shoots. On the following morning the patron departed but such was the effect of the Myoga that he even forgot to pay his bill. The humour of this story appealed so strongly to the relator that he was scarecly able to make himself intelligible being convulsed with laughter."
