Early 16th century

Steel damascened with gold and silver; the inner surfaces of the instruments are gilt; in 19th century leather-covered case. Unsigned and undated. Probably Milanese work.

Includes: a casket containing ink-wells and pounce-box (on the top of the lid of the casket, the damascening has been obliterated and a thin slab of green marble added); two pairs of dividers of the type known as maƮtre de danse; a graduated folding rule; combined dividers and graduated folding rule (?French measure); proportional dividers (1:1 & 1:4); a pair of dividers; a pair of compasses for use with ink; a pencil or charcoal holder; a pair of compasses for use with pencil or charcoal; and a grip (? for holding vellum or paper when writing).
