English MERCURY VAPOUR ARC LAMP
c.1905

Unsigned; Cooper-Hewitt type.
Glass-tube mercury vapour discharge lamp of the tilt-start type.
The lamp is fixed to a pivoted lever which can be raised to cause a thread of mercury to make electrical contact with the opposite electrode, so starting the discharge. The lever is then returned to the rest position. The chamber over the negative pole is enlarged and blackened to facilitate cooling. The stand has been cleaned and repainted.
