Leyden jar for medical use

A conventional Leyden jar but modified to retain its charge for longer; the central brass discharging rod supporting the ball has been replaced with a glass tube coated with tinfoil. Electrical contact between the ball and inner coating of the jar was made by a thin brass rod. This was withdrawn after charging the jar and only replaced when the jar was used.
