German MECHANICAL EQUINOCTIAL DIAL
Early 18th century.

Gilt and silvered brass, and silver. Signed, "Joannes Petrus Rutzius Frideberga"; undated.

The form of this instrument is unusual. The hour-plate is adjusted for the latitude by means of a quadrant, attached to the centre of the hour-plate, which passes through the top of the plummet support.

The index-arm is fitted with a vernier scale for reading minutes.
