English MECHANICAL EQUINOCTIAL DIAL
Before 1753.

Silver and gilt brass. Signed, "I: VAULOUE LONDON"; undated.

The hour-plate is adjusted to the latitude by means of a scroll-cam under the base-plate.

The base-plate has a silver scale giving the equation of time.

The index-arm is directed towards the sun by means of a lens (under the minute-scale) which focusses a spot of light on a projecting bar.

The compass-needle is a modern replacement.
