German MECHANICAL EQUINOCTIAL DIAL
18th century

Brass. Signed, "IOH . GEO . PLONINGER M√úNCHEN"; undated.

The dial is adjusted to the latitude by means of the vertical quadrant.

Over the equatorial hour-plate move two hands which show hours and minutes when the string gnomon on the hour-hand is turned until the gnomon's shadow falls on the engraved lines marked below it.

The compass formerly in the base is missing.
