English ELECTRICAL CONDENSER
c.1900

Kohlrausch's pattern
Unsigned
Heavy brass plates on glass supports hinged at base (so that plates are adjustable to different angles), brass sliders, and fine slider adjuster.
Aepinus and Wilcke first investigated the dielectric medium with 'plate of air' condenser (1759). Volta's condensing plates (1778) based on his electrophorus experiments (1775). He connected his condenser to his straw electrometer (1782), and this was copied by A. Bennet with his famous gold-leaf electroscope with condenser (1787). The condenser-electroscope was of great value in the work on contract potential, and contributed to the discovery of the Voltaic pile (1799)
