English ELECTRICAL VERSORIUM
c.1830

Unsigned
Simple electroscope based on Gilbert's 'versorium' described in his De magnete (1600), and like the pith-ball electroscope in action. The brass indicator, terminated by two gilded pith balls, is pivoted on a glass rod with an iron point. A charge brought near one of the balls will move the indicator, giving a rough indication of the magnitude of the charge.
