'MEDICAL COLLECTION.
Wimshurst Electrical Machine, X-ray Tube, and Fluorescent Screen presented by Captain E. G. Spencer Churchill. With this apparatus the donor, as an undergraduate at Magdalen in 1898, experimented with X-rays, and took a number of photographs. When the Boer War broke out it was sent out to South Africa in 1900, and for a long period was the only apparatus of its kind available. (The Times, 10 November 1939.)
It therefore marks the beginning of the application of an entirely novel method for providing the Army surgeon with immediate and exact information as to many kinds of wounds produced by enemy action. '
