99. Russian FED 4, 1960s

Signed: 'FED 4 / MADE IN USSR', serial no. 8639740.

The classic Leica and Contax designs inspired a number of imitations in particular in Japan and Russia. The first Russian FED made by the Dzerzhinsky Works of Kharkov was a copy of the Leica III. It has been said that it was manufactured with the help of refugees from Leitz in 1941, but it may well have been introduced in the late 1930s. The FED appeared throughout the 1960s in several models, but the Russian camera industry has never become the phenomenal success of the Japanese. This model has a f 2.8 lens of 52 mm focal length, focal plane shutter with speeds 1 - 1/500 sec., and a built-in exposure meter.

Length 85 mm, width 135 mm, height 90 mm.
