73. Two photographic images of the Moon, 1863 and 1865
These images were taken with cameras (Items 54 and 55) attached to the De la Rue 13-inch reflector of 10-foot focal length. Scratched in the glass of the first image is the date 27 March 1863. The second image set in the magic lantern slide was exposed on 11 August 1865 in the presence of Prof. Hoek of Utrecht. Stereoscopic views of De La Rue's moon photographs were also sold commercially.
