7. Travelling Wet-Collodion Sensitizing Tank, c. 1855

Mahogany and brass box with internal glass tank and watertight lid. The collodion-covered glass plate was sensitized by lowering it into this narrow bath containing silver nitrate and then still wet loaded into the plateholder or dark slide of the camera for exposure. R. W. Thomas were one of the foremost suppliers of photographic chemicals, albumenised papers dry-plates (makers of the popular 'Pall Mall plates').
