66. Robert Hunt's direct-positive photogenic drawing of houses taken with the camera obscura, 1839

The type of camera obscura is not specified but was probably the common reflex sliding box version (Item 12). From here it is only a small step to the early sliding-box camera. The row of houses are probably in Hunt's hometown of Devonport.

Direct-positive photogenic drawing (90 x 75 mm) by using exposed silver nitrate paper resensitized with a metal salt such as potassium iodide.
