31. Falcon Kodak Box Camera, 1897/8

Signed on inside of box: 'KODAK MADE BY EASTMAN KODAK CO. ROCHESTER, N.Y., U.S.A. PATENTED MAY 5, 1885, AUGUST 6, 1889 OTHER PATENTS APPLIED FOR.' etc.

For 2 x 12 inches (50 x 38 mm) exposures on special Falcon rollfilm. The mechanism lifts out with lid, complete with lens and roll film transport but shutter mechanism is left behind on its own mahogany strip, rotary sector shutter, and f16 achromatic lens of 65 mm focal length. This camera was introduced in 1897 and discontinued the following year when 2,500 had been made.
