Exhibition: The Astrolabe, East and West

From the collection of the Museum's founding benefactor

Lewis Evans was a leading collector of early mathematical instruments in the early twentieth century; it was his gift to the University of Oxford in 1924 that created this Museum. He had a strong interest in astrolabes and bought this Persian instrument in Wardour Street, London, in July 1922.
